Romantic porn

As I was writing about taboos, it was coincidence day because a bunch of related links popped up on Twitter.

Like this review of Passion Play (okay that wasnt directly Twitter)

And It’s Not Pornographic… It’s Romantic!

Posts like these bother me.

What is so wrong with porn?

It is pretty natural to have sexual feelings. Even women have them these days.

It seems there is a superiority in women who don’t give in to their “baser” needs. Is this just old school guilt?

I mean, sure, erotic literature has a storyline. But the basis is sex. It’s not erotic if there is no sex.

Is erotic literature not meant to get the reader excited? Does having a storyline make it superior to porn? Or os this just old ideas that sexual feelings are bad to have outside having sex with your partner in a monogamous relationship?

    Hey there,
The crucial element is the nature of the pornographic material. If it is exploitative, suffering-enducing then it is foul and will only spread misery. If it is an artistic video of two people engaging in true love without any inhibitions, then it is art…pornography needs to change dramatically. No-one benefits from normal porn, neither the actors nor the viewers, who are brutalised and given unelegant notions of sexual intercourse.
    Thank you,
    Tom.

Anything that is exploitive of the people involved is wrong. But two consenting adults having sex, whether or not they are “in love”, is not destructive. But your opinion may vary. For the haters of porn, you don’t have to watch, I don’t even watch porn, I merely defend the right of people who wish to.
